Writing Prompts for New Beginnings – January Week 1
  • Save

January is a month of new beginnings, a time to reflect on the past year and set intentions for the one ahead. As we enter the unknown, it’s important to take a step back and to take stock of where we’ve been and where we plan on going. A great way to do that is by writing things down, getting your thoughts on paper, and making a plan. These writing prompts will help you along with that.

5 Writing Prompts to Kickstart Your Creativity:

Prompt 1: Reflect on the previous year and set intentions for the new year

Take a moment to pause and reflect on the past year. What were the highlights? What were the challenges? Write a journal entry or essay detailing your experiences and lessons learned. Then, set intentions for the year ahead. What do you hope to achieve? What changes do you want to make in your life?

Prompt 2: Write about a fresh start or new beginning in your life

We all experience moments of renewal and rebirth throughout our lives. Whether it’s starting a new job, moving to a new city, or embarking on a new relationship, new beginnings are opportunities for growth and transformation. Write a story about a fresh start in your own life, exploring the emotions and experiences that come with it.

Prompt 3: Describe your goals and aspirations for the upcoming year

What are your dreams and aspirations for the year ahead? Take some time to brainstorm and jot down your goals, whether they’re big, audacious dreams or small, achievable milestones. Then, expand on each goal, outlining the steps you’ll take to make them a reality.

Prompt 4: Explore the theme of renewal and rejuvenation

January is a chance to shake off the dust of the old year and embrace the possibilities of the new one. Write a poem or short story that captures the essence of renewal, using vivid imagery and sensory language to evoke the feeling of starting fresh.

Prompt 5: Create a story or poem about starting over

Imagine a character who is allowed to start over from scratch. What would they do differently? How would they navigate the challenges and opportunities of a new beginning? Write a narrative that explores the theme of starting over, delving into the emotions and experiences of your character as they embark on this journey.
